For example you say, “I OFFER (Fajr, Duhr, Asr, Megrib, Isha….) Prayers seeking nearness to Allah, in obedience to Him”.

Prayer Intention (Niyyah)

 

Depending on the prayer you are offering say either one of the five below:

  1. for Morning Prayer:  I OFFER  (Fajr) Prayers seeking nearness to Allah, in obedience to Him
  2. for Noon Prayer:  I OFFER  (Duhr) Prayers seeking nearness to Allah, in obedience to Him
  3. for After Noon Prayer:  I OFFER  (Asr) Prayers seeking nearness to Allah, in obedience to Him
  4. for Sunset Prayer:  I OFFER  (Megrib) Prayers seeking nearness to Allah, in obedience to Him
  5. for Night Prayer:  I OFFER  (Isha) Prayers seeking nearness to Allah, in obedience to Him

You do not need to utter these words verbally; it is sufficient for you to make the intention mentally.

Having specified your intention, you say the Takbirat al-’Ihram (signals the start of the salat), which is Allahu Akbar, while at the same time reaching your hands to the proximity of your ears with the palms of your hands facing away from you, and then back to the normal resting position.

Step 2 – Starting Prayer “Takbirat al-’Ihram”

While Standing upright facing the direction of Al-Ka’bah.

Lift both hands up to your ears and say: “Allahu Akbar

(Allah is greater than what he is described as)
